Did anyone see the Indy Car crash involving Kenny Brack at the Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday? Saw it on Sky last night. Absolutely horrific, the worst motor sport crash I've seen in years.

It's a credit to the car designers that Brack wasn't killed. As it is he's in a pretty bad way but hopefully will make a full recovery.

Get well soon Kenny.

haven't seen the indy crash yet - watch the Zanardi crash as it happened - pretty unpleasent - great to hear that Alex will be racing next year (if all goes well in Italian Touring cars - I think)

Most spectacular crash ever is this pick up crash.
Not fatalities so I figure it's OK to post the video

From what I've read (articles on Autosport.com), Zanardi won't be racing again after this weekend.

It's a minor miracle that he is even able to drive a car, let alone race one competitively after suffering the injuries that he did. Amazing guy.

Without looking, I'm guessing that's Geoff Bodine at Daytona?

Did you see the crash 18 months ago in Germany when Alex Zanardi had his car ripped on two, him in one half, HIS LEGS IN THE OTHER!

I didn't see the crash and I'm quite grateful for that although I have seen him on TV since. Brave guy.

Edited to say sorry, I've just seen that there was already a thread about this on the forum.

The only thing I can find on the ETCC is this
www.fiatouringcars.com/Default.asp?callPage=contentreadnews.asp&id=581

Doesn't mention anything but him racing ?
What happened - couldn't find the article on Autosport.com

Sorry - it wasn't Autosport, it was the BBC.

How the hell Kenny Brack survived that I don't know. Terrifying to watch. Thought it was bad enough when I saw the pictures in the paper, but to see it on the news, its horrific. Hope he makes a full recovery and is back racing again.

Brack has second operation after Indy crash

15 October 2003

NEW YORK: Sweden's Kenny Brack, who suffered multiple fractures in a crash at the Texas 500 Indy Racing League (IRL) race on Monday (NZ time), remains in a serious but stable condition after surgery on his lower back, doctors said today.

The back operation followed surgery on Brack's right thigh bone and both ankles in Dallas, the IRL's director of medical services Dr Henry Bock said in a statement.

Brack crashed on lap 188 of the 200-lap race.

Dr Kevin Morrill, chief neurologist at the Parkland Memorial Hospital, where Brack was airlifted after the race, oversaw the back, surgery, which involved an open fixation on the spinal fracture and a spinal fusion of three vertebrae.

"Kenny's spine is stable and he's moving his legs and toes," Morrill said.

"We will continue to watch him closely over the next couple of days. Kenny is a world-class athlete and his physical conditioning will really aid him in this situation."

Brack, the IRL champion in 1998 and Indy 500 winner in 1999, locked wheels with South African Tomas Scheckter, the son of former Formula One world champion Jody, on the back straight heading for turn three and his Team Rahal car was flipped into the air.

He crashed into the catch fencing, tearing the fence, before bouncing back on to the track where his car spun on its side before stopping at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

Brack was taken to the infield care centre at the track before being airlifted to the Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Brazil's Gil de Ferran won the event, which was shortened by the accident with five laps to go, while Scott Dixon, of New Zealand, who finished second, clinched the IRL series title.

That was just shockingly bad marshalling. I do think something has to be done about marshalling in America. I remember a few years ago JJ Lehto had to put a fire out himself, after the marshals wouldn't come all of 6 foot over the barrier to do it themselves.

Not seen that one, but what appears to be bad marshalling often has very valid reasons behind the decision.
