Wool Overcoat, any recommendations?

With the winter here and the party season upon us I need a winter coat for formal events. I recently bought a black 3/4 overcoat from Next, but it's not particulary warm and makes me look like a bouncer/undertaker! I'm looking for a heavy 3/4 length wool coat, possibly double breasted and I'm thinking of a charcoal colour to get away from the doorman thing. This is possibly the strangest reason to post a link to a Hostel clip but I remember watching the film and thinking "that's a nice coat" when the main guy is trying to escape! About 3:30 in.

Got mine a few years ago now, was £80 or something and still as good as new, Penny lope will no doubt be along shortly to comment on my Paddington jacket but its warm so care not I.........

Keep taking the medication. In fact, double the recommended dose as your current level is obviously not sufficient.

Austin Reed have a rather nice 95% wool 5% cashmere coat for £300. I was going to get one of these but in the end plumped for an M&S 95/5% one for £160 during one of their silly sales.

I've just been on the lookout for something similar, and ended up with 2... One from Reiss which is very fitted/tailored for "special" occasions, or at least those times when I'm not wearing a full suit underneath. I almost went with a Hugo Boss one, but the Reiss one was a better fit. And another from one of the high street suit shops (sorry, can't remember which), but it was a Pierre Cardin and I got it slightly bigger to make it comfortable over a suit. Both were around the £200 mark after discounts, but you can get some very similar ones from about £120 upwards depending on the exact style.

I recommend you visit a decent department store, something like house of fraser, and wander round the smarter part of the menswear section. It'll give you a good idea of what you're after. After trying on a bunch I realised I wanted vertical type pockets on the outside as the horizontal ones weren't comfy if you walk round with yer hands in yer pockets like I do, and the coats with a wool/cashmere blend felt really good.

I have a 100% cashmere jobbie from AR. Lovely thing, has lasted beautifully.

The profit margin will only account for a little of the difference in price.
