Think twice, everyone I know thats bought home kit, including me, has used it for a month or two and then put it in the garage.......go to the gym instead or just go do some sport/running.

I've just grabbed one that someone was giving away for nowt! It's a York 2002 Multi Gym. Doesn't seem at all bad! It did me in putting it together though.

I live in hope that it will be used as part of my Iron Man fitness regime wink.

Save the money, you'll never use it for anything but drying your washing.

Go to www.rosstraining.com for lots of workouts that require no equipment. If you want to be posh and splash out why not buy a chinup bar, medicine ball and a couple of dumbbells? Hey presto - instant gym!

I've got a chinning bar, a few weights, a bike (the type you cycle and leave the house to use) and some trainers to go running in. All can be had relativly cheap, and if you know what your doing its enough to get/keep you in shape!

a couple of months ago my dad bought a hole lot of gym kit, like running machine, some kind of aerobic stuff etc

it was an offer in the paper

then when it arrived he realized
1: hes never been to a gym and didnt really want it
2: we had no where to put it so sent it back

don't bother with a multi gym then....buy a bench and some free weights off ebay. Will give you a much better workout plus you'll get your money back when you sell them in a month's time!!

Yep, buy a second-hand bench and weights. Multi-gyms are rubbish. You'll use it seven times and that'll be that.

I once bought £8000 worth of refurbished heavy-duty equipment for £1100, pretty much like new. Used it for 7 years then sold it on for £850 - not a bad return! Depends how much space you have, though.

Piece of CV equipment (cross trainer/rower) and a bench, gym ball and free weights should do you fine. You could try your local freecycle for a multigym if you're really keen, alternatively the free ads in your local paper, must be loads of people trying to clear space and make cash for Christmas.

The 2 main reasons for not getting a home multigym are....

They don't work your muscles as well as freeweights imo.

The weights generally don't go high enough for you to push yourself.

Spend it all on a decent squat rack and free weights or go to the gym.

I bought a multi-gym a few years ago for around £300 (I think). For that kind of budget, I don't think you'll find anything of a very high quality.

As others have mentioned, after a couple of months the multi-gym was ditched and I went back to free-weights and going to the gym.

IMO - get some free weights! Much cheaper, and you get a better work out!
