Who will employ the underclass?

So the government want to get the work shy underclass into work. The problem is who will employ them? I was talking to a couple of business owners last night who employ quite a few unskilled and semi skilled people. "I would rather employ more polish blokes" says one "I wouldn't trust them. I only want to employ people who want to work" says the other. Neither of them would even consider taking them on even if they were partly government funded. Apart from the public sector who is going to be willing to take someone on aged 25-45 and never had a job?

I understand that the main reason to get them to work is to reduce the taxpayer's burden, but assuming there aren't enough jobs, why don't they just do menial jobs for us workers in return for their benefits? I could do with a cleaner

What doesn't seem to make any sense is that if Mothers are made to work then the State pays the vast majority of their childcare costs. They've got to be earning way more than is normal to make it worthwhile.

I think there's almost zero chance of any of these 'reforms' coming through. It's an election tactic to make those who work think "Humm, that's a good idea. Maybe Labour aren't all that crap."

If they win the election (which they won't) this will all be quietly forgotten.

No benefits should be paid in cash of any kind. There should only be vouchers or tokens redeemable only for food, clothing and energy costs. Everything else is a luxury and if they want them they should have to work for them.

I believe they should be dispatched to make Britain a nicer place to live. Be it scrubbing graphiti off walls or simply collecting the horrific amounts of rubbish that are all over the place in towns and cities. Just little touches to make this country a little nicer to conduct your life in.

Civil Service is getting rid of 10's of thousands of people - many offices closing in towns and cities and the work being moved to call-centres.

As the population ages there will need to be many, many more people doing "caring" type jobs. But, as with many of the forced labour options, would you want your elderly parents cared for by someone who didn't want to do it?
