Impreza p/x values...

I'm considering swapping my '05 WRX PPP for an '05 STi PPP (somehow the WRX doesn't seem quick enough anymore and I want the full-fat Impreza experience) - however looking at what they are selling for the values for my car appear to be all over the place right now.
What do those in the know reckon I could expect as p/x in the current climate? It's silver, has the PPP and SmartNav / tracker fitted, and a touch-screen stereo with iPod connector. Apart from that it's standard and in immaculate condition. FSH and 40k miles.
Oh, and the STi is an '05, PPP, 23k miles, in excellent nick - up at £12,990 - is that expensive?

I went to trade my Impreza in (2005 - 55 plate Hawkeye WRX) about 2 months ago. The car is totally standard and has covered 19K the part ex offer made was £8K. The car I was looking to buy was 16k so I decided to walk away.
The arse has totally fallen out the market. The dealer who I bought it from originally made an offer to buy it back in Feb 2008 when they were looking for stock, rung me up and offered 11K. Wish I took it now but hindsight is a great thing.
So in answer to your question I would probably say you'd be doing well if you got between 7-8K. But be prepared for values of 6K to be offered to you.

Been offered £6.5k tonight by said trader... I am no way desperate enough to take that offer. Is it just me or does looking at other cars more often than not remind you of how much you like your existing one?
Reckon I'll keep it, add some 18" PFF7's and the Prodrive spring kit.

Sell the car privately....stick it in PH Classifieds and it will sell!! Just have a look in there at what the dealers want for similar cars and those on private sale. On average the dealers want £1000-£2000 more than private sellers.
Equally, the price you are offered for your car in part-ex has nothing to do with the bottom falling out of the market... go down to some of these dealers and see how much they want for a car identical to yours. You'll see they quite clearly they enjoy taking the piss and making some fairly decent profit per vehicle at the same time.
And before anyone pipes up and says that i begrudge dealers making a profit, nothing of the sort. They are in business to make money, they have overheads and wages to pay, just as i do in business however, there's no reason why you can't make a decent profit and not take the piss, resulting in a steady and continuing turnover of cars!! Better to move cars and make smaller profits than to be greedy and see them sitting on the forecourt for months on end!!
What they offer you on part-ex bares no resemblence to what the car is really worth or what they will sell it for!! If anything the private used car market is doing well compared to new cars or dealership used cars so keep hold of it and sell it private!!
If you don't believe me have a look on PH classified and see just how many private cars sell compared to dealers cars!! In just the first 10 pages of Subaru Impreza's for sale....16 are sold by private sellers and just 1 sold by a dealer!!

Part ex prices also factor in how quickly the dealer would anticipate selling your car. A petrol engined, Korean 4WD is worth slightly less than my lunch, for example.If you don't believe me have a look on PH classified and see just how many private cars sell compared to dealers cars!! What I would say about PH classified prices is that they tend to be higher than market - or at least, higher than Autotrader. I believe this is because they are free.
