Share trading and exchange rates?

Hi all.
So, over the years I’ve done a fair amount of UK share trading, but have now identified a couple of US companies that I would like to invest in.
My question is with regards to exchange rates, does anyone have an opinion on whether now would be a bad time to trade, based purely on exchange rates, as if the pound begins to strengthen I could see my investment value dropping regardless of the company’s performance.
Does anyone have any thought on how Sterling will fair against the dollar over the next 12 months?
