Although all firemen are muscle-bound heroes, (obviously ladies) they do have a reputation within the emergency services for not being terribly 'sharp'.
When spending time with paramedics a staple source of humour is the latest fire-service anecdote.
Amongst other stories, I heard about:
-The time during delicate and lengthy negotiations with a suicidal individual who had covered themselves in petrol, when a young fireman got trigger-happy with the hose and let go with 300psi, launching the individual 15 yards down the pavement.
-The time when a paramedic was carrying out urgent lifesaving work in an overturned car, when his bag of equipment was hosed down the road to 'tidy-up' the crash scene.
I also attended a house fire where the firemen were putting water into a house. The paramedic liaised with the fireman in charge to get a sit-rep. He paused and then said to the fireman,
"Umm...You have er... seen those, calor gas cylinders next to the house there? Haven't you?"
The reply came, "Gas cylinders? Where? -Oh right -yeah."

I would have given that young fireman a commendation! no that is not a little known gay technique. I hope.

But it saved his life? My husband is a firefighter (a sharp one though
) - they had a load of kids throwing fireworks at them recently so they used said sudden jet of water on a couple of them....they soon cleared off! Mc Lovin said:
