Tape to CD

I've been advised to get my dad something to trnsfer tapes to CD for christmas, any suggestions on what to get, how much to pay and if it'll be possible to get it before the 25th?
I'm not sure if it would be easier to get something standalone or a tape deck and software for the computer?

Or you could get this and do the vinyls as well.

PC, cable to connect a tape deck to said PC, copy of Total Recorder software. Job Done

I transferred some vinyl to MP3 this way a whle back (except substiute record deck for tape deck)
