I saw this on the side of the "Grandma gets Machinegun" article from another thread. I just thinks these things are worth highlighting. Here is another example of a type fellow that is probably quickly, and sadly, going extinct. :

Not many like that still about. The gardener for my parents house in France is well into his eighties and refuses to scale down his work but also refuses to be given any more than a basic wage. He too says that he just loves working outside (and we bought the house from him when it became too big for his needs, so he likes looking after it).

I thought he didn't actually know/could prove how old he was and it was a "best guess" that he was in his low hundreds (as in 103-104 not 200-300 )

Shnozz's mum and dad had an old gardener like that and thought it was great, till one afternoon when the big nosed one ended up trying to bump start the old boy on the patio.

Oh I think you underestimate the will of our gardener! something as trivial as a heart attack wouldnt stop him from working!

he is currently missing a total of about 3 fingers (ie he has many half fingers) and last year he had an incredibly serious illness (very quickly lost a couple of stone etc), but once again refused to stop working and also refused to tell us what was wrong.

he is going to out-live us all!
