After Tiff Needells words last night ( and whatever we think of him he can drive..)
and similar sentiment from this months magazines, is the Gallardo a bit too much of , well, an Audi?

Some of the comments about driving "feel" and sensitivity sound like a cut and paste from a Audi TT road test.

Should I think twice about aspiring to one of these, or is there a defender out there who has driven one?

I went to the showroom with intention of placing deposit -

Interior just not special enough for car that will cost 130k by the time I've played with the spec list -

I visited the Lambo showroom with the intention of placing a deposit, hoping that it looked better in the flesh.

I saw a Diablo 6.0, nearly bought it.

Thought about the Murcielago, couldn't stomach the £12K insurance bill.

Decided against both V12 Lambo's anyway due to size (I live in London and would use them to go into city and west end.

Got a 360 Spider instead. The guys at Lambo London will hate me, but the Gallardo just didn't do it for me. Interior is so boring, and the leather even smells like an Audi. Plus all my mates thought it was some kind of flash Celica when they first saw it. Ooops sorry Rich!

This same unwelcome thought popped into my head as I was standing in the showroom gazing at the front of it. Nooooo....

From the pics I want one. Must pop down to the showroom one lunchtime and check it out in the flesh. Not that theres much chance of me parting with the cash, unless I buy a caravan with it to!

Still waiting for mine (LHD)- should be here November 4...So I'm told - although the date has slipped twice now.....boo hoo!

Still think the point is being missed a bit - surley it's about the chassis, engine, steering etc - or is it about the interior switchgear?

More importantly, in my opinion, if Valentino B says this is the best handling Lambo - then I believe him.

Penny (wifey) drives an Audi allroader - and reckons she'll probably drive the Gallardo (clearly it's the switchgear..... - she hated driving the 360, loathed driving the Diablo(s) (strange girl), the 550, the 355 etc...although she though the 996 turbo was "alright"....

Horses for courses? Bulls for running?

hee hee hee!

I do hope you clean it more than i did mine.

I think the G is the biz, but I need to drive one before I part with cash.

Rich, you tart, clean it more than yours? If I clean it once it;ll already be more than you!

I keep looking at pics of the Gallardo and I really want to think "wow", or even "it looks good", but to me, it just doesn't work. I understand that performance wise it will probably destroy most things. But I don't buy on performance alone. There is no occasion with the Gallardo. Looks way too square, and really and truly, it looks like a Celica. Sorry, I really want it not to (even to the point where I was half lying on the floor to see if it looked any less like one at a low angle... it still looked like one).

I'll be content with your cast off, as long as you don't mind your Celica look-a-like

Nick wouldn't mind some of your other cast offs, but thats not entirely car related...

Nina,

please remember the only time you will see a G on the road is from behind. Oh and as you arrive outside a club, the choicest morsels will be picked up already ;-)

But will I realise its a Gallardo, or will I be thinking "wow, that Celica is fast!"? Which reminds me, some nutter in a VW Polo 1.3 Supercharge thing with lots of mods was keeping up with the 360. I was well impressed! Only thing was his car was stinking pretty bad at the next set of lights...

Yeh, I heard the little girls around Southend like Maxed up Celica's. The G won't look too out of place then

Oh, and stop calling me Nina, you tart!

Firstly, the closest I ever get to supercar ownership is a ride in my mates 355 (Oi! Paul, its been six months!!)

I actually like Tiff. But I did feel that he was out to critsise the event as well as the car. Perhaps the two are related?

He seemed a bit put out by having to do stuff like travel in a coach along with all the other journos. Poor didums.

Reading threads here in the past on all Marques, questions are always asked as to what a car is like to live with. If you want balls out raw I suppose you get the Murcky. If you can't afford one you get a....a....GT2? If you want a usable car you get a 996? or a 360? or a Gallardo. Can you have a compromise between the two? If you can let me know what it is so I can add it to my fantasy garage. It really needs updating.

Thanks Buster

I can see it now

My hand is posed over my Coutts cheque and the my butler is preparing a space for it in the garage (having recently had another extension put on)

Damn! my Mont Blanc has just snapped it's nib. The lawyers called me on my £15K platinum Virtue mobile to let me know wife has just won a massive divorce settlement and I've just got the summons for doing three times the limit down the limehouse link (new digital camera) in my F40.

I can't even get my fantaies right!

You guys might haved hit on something.

Perhaps we are wrong to think of the Gallardo as a 360 rari competitor and more as an use-it-every-day 996TT rival?

After all, it is essentially a german car innit?

Murki balls out? Nah... It's fast but not raw. It is an Audi with a nice engine (and good steering!) But not GT2 raw or TVR raw...

what a disappointing car...

i've seen in metal, in action on a magazine's own track here in Italy...the sound was a delusion, performance for who tried the car were a delusion...

only old and lary people loved it...that's not a good thing for a true car, not for a lambo...
