seem to be tad expensive on the classifieds ,just missed a 99 m3 gt2 which sold for £4900 and on ebay other week 99 s reg went for £4300 considering a 96 on the classifieds is nearly 7.5 k
Sorry but late e36 M3s going for that money will be total lemons. I looked at a few in that price bracket and it's pretty shocking how knackered some of them are....dez58pop said:
hi new to the forum ,im after a m3 e36 estoril blue looked on the clasifieds bt not much abwt ,must be 98-99 r/s reg and estoril blue got abwt £4500 or wud swap for my 328 sport , m tec factory 1 ,plus cash, cheers guys
You'll be looking at nearer £8k for what you're after. I'm quite tempted by the Estoril Blue/Black '96 one that's up for £7.5k, but I'm put off 'cause I think it's too much to pay given what much newer E46s with a lot less miles are going for these days. For £8k I'd want one that is mechanically and cosmetically perfect, rather than low mileage.
Problem is that most cars now are around £5k, but at that price there's no distinction between "really good but only £5k" and "completely ropey but punting for £5k".
At the higher end they tend to be better history/fewer niggles/better condition cars.
£4.5k for a late car in Estoril (pretty much the car of choice) just isn't enough IMO.

I've looked at a few uber low mileage ones before and they can still have stone chips and scuffed wheels, plus cars like M3s don't benefit from spending a long time doing nothing. Add to that the fact that there is still maintenance to be done even if you don't use it (think perished rubber pipes, bushes etc) and I end up back to preferring a car that's had everything done, even at 100k+ miles.anonymous said:

Hmmm... I know what condition mine is in, and I wouldn't sell it for less than 150% of that (not that that means it is worth 150% of that).anonymous said:

not for me.anonymous said:

At what mileage is it possible to scrape your wheels along a kerb? I didn't know there was a restriction, although I appreciate that stones do you the courtesy of not hitting the front of a sub 25k mile car...

When I bought it for just over £5k it was a just over £5k car. The condition of it now reflects the price I would want.If I wanted to sell it quickly then it'd be foolish to advertise it at £7.5k. I don't want to sell it at all right now, but I appreciate I'd be limiting my potential market at that price and so would take longer to sell.

Sorry, I think you'd die waiting for someone to pay you £7.5k for a 130,000 mile E36 Evo in the current market conditions. That is museum piece money, certainly sub 100k miles and probably sub 75k miles and preferably sub 50k miles. What the hell have you done that has increased the value by 50% over what you paid for it? Have you had a new engine and bodyshell shipped over from Germany, replaced the entire interior - basically built a brand new car from OEM parts?
