Enough lurking, I'm coming out - but not that way!

okay, my first question to the PH LR overseers is as in the thread title: what are the main differences between the 90 and Defender. Second question is, what sort of landy would I get for £3.5 - 4k? I'm considering one as my main vehicle - around 100 miles per week, until I start to feel the need for some off roading...what do you think?

btw, hello

Defender name was introduced with the 200tdi engine in about 1990.... I think.

300tdi was introduced in 1994 which was better in terms of NVH , but had a cambelt instead of a chain.

Both engines are reliable, but not very powerful. 111bhp

td5 came out in 1999

300tdi and TD5 have the R380 gearbox which is better than the earlier ones (I am not exactly sure which box the 200tdi had)

4k should get you a 300tdi I would have thought

The 200Tdi has a cam belt too and was fitted with an LT77 gearbox.

Okay, thanks for that; so will £4k get me a problem free, mechanically and structurally sound example? or am I being a little unrealistic?
