Need help with a word....

Its annoying the bajeezus out of me...

Coke... Hoover... Tipex... Biro... product names that have become the word for the type of product they are?

I.e. you ask for a Coke, but it could be Pepsi, Virgin Cola etc.

Sellotape, the universal word for sticky tape.

Im pretty sure there is a technical word that describes it?

Yes, its a generic term, but im pretty sure theres a word that describes this exact scenario. I did it as a module in English Language in school - just wish i could remember.
