king Bruges? 
My wife loves it there - the Xmas Market is cool and the canal trip is ok as is a ride around town in a horse drawn carriage with or without the drivers commentary (you choose at the outset).
Nice town with enough restaurants to please most people.

It's where the Hairy Bikers went, over 300 different beers, also the Brewery tour is ok, but they don't brew there any more????
Nip into a bookshop & pick up the Belgium beer guide, I've ticked off around 38 of the 800 or so different brews, & I've only been twice.
If you feel energetic, A walk along the canal to Damm (spelling??) is worth a trip, stop there before a beer & then catch the boat back.

Used to live 45 minutes away from Bruges, it's a great place. Also, just down from the shop that sells 300 beers (away from main square) is a bar that claims to sell 400 and also produces food (stews, pies etc) with them
There is currently an ice rink in the main square which looks like fun. However, when I was there last Saturday the stalls selling gluwine(sp?) and other higher proof Belgian drinks appeared to be having a negative impact on people's ability to remain upright.
At the top of the town is another larger square which is where the market is on certain days. On one side of this are loads of hotels and restaurants that all do good food. I can recommend the steak and frites from Hotel T'Zard
We had a great time a couple year ago there but watch out for rip off tourist guides. See below.

This place is actually a backpackers hostel, but you can just eat and drink in terms of places to day I have stayed at the Oudburg hotel, which is just off the main square, it was pretty good and a great location

Try not to eat in the main square (apart from Chips from the hot food vendors which are possibly the best on the planet ) - you'll get well and truly fleeced if you eat in any of the bars/restaurants within 1/4 mile of the main sq.
Go a bit further & there are plenty of good places to eat that are much more reasonably priced. If you want to learn something about the place take a boat trip round the canals - takes about 30 minutes & costs 5 yo-yos I think
