Some bastard keeps giving my mobile number out!

For the last year or so I've been getting phone calls from numerous debt recovery agencys asking for a man called Sarwash(thats what it sounds like). At first I didn't mind but now it's starting to irritate me a little. From what I can make out from the callers this chap they are after is taking out loans and then defaulting them and leaving my mobile number as a contact.

I cant think of anyway to stop this apart from what I have been doing and telling the numerous agencies that they have the wrong number and please stop calling. Thing is, some of them think I am this Sarwash chap trying it on and they keep calling back.

So is there anything I can do apart from change my number?

Go down the police station and report it. Don't know if it's enough to get a crime number. The record of you doing this will prove useful if it ever comes to prosecution etc.

Ask them if he gave any other information.

I recently found that my Samsung has a "block list" of numbers that it will ignore. Depends if they keep phoning you from the same numbers, or different ones every time.

hahaha I used to put my friends phone number anywhere I could. Walls of the bathroom stall mostly. he would always get random phone calls LOL

I eventually fessed up and he punched me as hard as he could in my spleen. You know what, it hurt!

We laughed and moved on.

but all in all, the do not call list has expired. I get telemarketing calls atleast 3x a week. I tell them to fk off

We're in a similar situation in SD funnily enough, we rented our house 4 months ago, took out new phone number with AT&T and we've been getting around 12+ calls a day for a "Robert Hannibal". Learned that this guy has defaulted on dozens of loans, car payments, T.V payments and so on.

We've even had several debt recovery companies call us many times with different numbers and posing as "friends of Bob Hannibal". Some seemed genuinely surprised that an angry Scottish bloke answers every time !

Our solution... I ask to speak to the supervisor or tracing dept, explain the situation and that if the company don't stop calling me I'll be taking legal action.

It works but is a slow process, personally I'd just change phone numbers. Much easier and cheaper in the longrun.
