right here goes...

replaced the battery this week and since its been replaced it doesnt seem to be holding charge, the Volt Meter is right down in the red and the charge light keeps flickering.

recently had the alternator checked and the brush block referbished too.

today as i was driving home, the car just cut out and lost all drive and i managed to coast into a layby.

every time i tried the key it would fire straight up but before i could even get a rev. tried it a couple of times and exactly the same thing happened.
turned off all the lights etc removed the key for a couple of seconds and then tried again.

fired up and worked like there wasnt a problem. let it idle for 5mins or so before gingerly making my way home.

any suggestions as to what could be at fault?

thanks in advance,
nick.

Not sure about the battery issue, but the cutting out thing has happened to me. See the link.

A few different theories, but they may be of help.

if I understand you right, if the battery fires the car up each time, surely it must be fairly well charged. The first thing I would check if it has only happened since the new battery was fitted, would be the tightness and condition of the leads and connections, especially the earth. A loose/intermittent earth could easily explain some of your problems.

Check the 100 amp Fuse yes

I had a similar problem in the dim and distant past and after investigation turned out to be a corroding 100 amp fuse that caused the intermittent fault.

Assuming you have one that is smile
