Hi all,

Am currently suffering the well known issue of the faulty final stage unit that controls the fan speed in my Evo. Before I order a new part I want to get at the old one to test that that is definitely the problem. Had been informed that the unit sat behind the knee bolster in the driver footwell, but having searched around there this morning I can see no sign of it.

Does anyone know for sure where the unit sits in UK model cars? The next place I would look is behind the glovebox, but having had the glovebox etc out before in my old M3 I would rather know this is the correct place before pulling it all out, as it is a right pain in the arse to get everything back in and lined up.

Cheers for any help!

Andy

Can't help my self i'm afraid sir but you might want to ask the same question over on http://www.bmwowner.com

You may get a better and more specific responce from on there.

M3J.

Edit;

Just re-read your post, do you mean to say that the fan speed comes and goes as it wishes and turns off & on when it likes at various speeds? if it is this then i can help.

Cheers for getting back to me, will have a look over on that forum.

The actual climate control unit (digital dual zone version) works fine, and the fan speed is always as set when working. However, the fan often does not work at all (i.e. whatever speed it is set to there is no air blown at all). This seems to be fairly intermittent, with no pattern as to when it decides to blow or not. Contacted www.bmw-climate-repair.co.uk who reckoned it was the final stage unit resistor, but that is what I'm having trouble locating!
