The additional weight is more than compensated for by the additional power but the main advantage is when you go to a 3R as the majority (not the early ones) come with 6 Spd Gearbox and LSD. It's common for the diff's to go on the 2.5's and 3.0's which is an 'engine-out' job and the 2.5's were also prone to ECU issues. As such, my advice would be to go for a 3R unless you can afford an M400? Failing that, a sorted 2.5 or 3.0 will give you a shed-load of fun.
[only every 500 miles you have got a good one then, haha
iv got the 2.5 its not slow but i realy want that extra bit of power!!! would be nice to go out in a 3lt to see the differance!!! mine tenda to fall apart lucky i no wot im doing or it would have cost me £££££££££ and some tho it bloody good fun when it not faling apart lol
quote=jimbooo]i have the 2.5, damn quick and loads of fun but seems to fall apart every 500 miles.
hoping these are teething problems!
the mrs wants shot of it but i am clinging on by my fingernails. great fun on and off the road lol

When we finally get to meet up you can have a spin in mine.
Ive got a modified 3ltr engine with a 5 speed box and std diff. I think that the only limitation is if you have a std diff like mine, then you can only go to about 340/350ftlb torque. If you have an LSD you can get a lot more
I think that generally there is not much difference as standard cars, but as stated the 2.5 suffers from ECU problems and that’s when they go off the boil!!And also its a bit to do with how you drive the car!!!

my 2.5 had the ecu problem so the last owner added an aftermarket one. I have a certificate to verify 350bhp. It is boosting to 1.2 bar at the moment which is probably why i'm splitting manifolds by the week. I'm going to get it on a rolling road asap to see what is actually going. on. It also has the 3r front clam so basically is just like a gto 3 but with more boost and less engine lol

The reason your car is cracking manifolds has nothing to do with boost pressure, it is due to engine rock and the weight of the turbo's hanging on the end of the manifold. The later braced ones are a bit better, however the way to eliminate this design fault would be to devise a support for the Turbo.jimbooo said:

I would get it on the rollers again, I have an after market ECU on mine boosting at 0.8 I'm hitting 340 on std exhaust. Just about to get it back after some fiddling and variable boost controler fitted to run it from 0.6 to 1bar. I wouldn't like to run that eninge (unless strengthened) on 1.2bar, sounds a bit high.
