Just had a converston with a 535d owners who ultimately thinks its as good as a M5.

He started going on about how a remapped one can keep up to a M5! bks!

I personally think "stop driving a wannabe m5"

Any views?

Probably better economy, great torque, better over-taking ability...who knows.

People with the 635d never talk like this.

LOL i dnt care what anybody says a remapped 535d would never be faster than the all mighty m5. Now in certain circumstances like rolling start from say 30 mph for example the 535d would have the advantage due to it's shear torque. it wouldn't be long before the m5 storms pass. the v10 has a massive power band.

believe me i have remapped 535d's and they are awesome but nothing compared to an m5.

sorry

Having 500 horse power is pretty useless anyway!

Where the hell do you use that much power?

I bet 75% of the M5`s have never been over 120mph....
Only people who dont have, comment like that

I think I can answer this....

I had a good run with a 535D where the M6 meets the A14, after the roundabout and we both went for it. I was easing away all the time but only slowly, not as fast as I had hoped.

At the FOS a while back, a few of us ended up getting into a bit of a convoy, a new XJR, M5 and my 500E, we all went for an overtake with me in the lead. So I was foot to the floor and after I pulled in the M5 gracefully just drove past me and into the distance, I never had a hope.

Performance difference was night and day.

Haha, I think I am going to use that comment in my signature, an all time classic.

Do you really think it is about the speeds you can reach??

I have to be honest and not yet met a 535d owner thinks his car is anywhere near the M5.

Most have a reason why they chose the 535d, which is the M5 has a crap range and will cost 3x as much as the 535d to own and run, which is fair enough. But money no object I think they would all take the M5, or the B5 Alpina if they wanted an auto mile muncher.

Yeah but, no but, yeah but, no but, yeah but, no but, a 335D (Mapped) would 'av an M5 in 3rd gear between 52mph and 56mph, any day of the week. Believe it!

I think a well setup e39 M5 would best a mapped 535d, at the last Vmax I managed 169mph in Der's M5
i'm not sure any 535d has managed that at Vmax

yes on my trip today with 414BHP (e92 M3)I really didn't see the whole point in it, I mean the noise of the engine, the point and squirt M button bits between roundabouts v boring, I'd rather have less power and more economy....no, hold on...pack of lies...414BHP and more please...

Never mind x35ds, it's the 320ds and A4 1.9 TDis you need to worry about. The ones that drive a couple of inches off your rear bumper because their car is clearly faster than an M3 / M5.

I was thinking just the same in the M6 on Sunday.... overtaking 4 or 5 at a time where safe conditions permitted, using the M button for its intended purpose - as a safety device to allow swifter overtaking.

I couldn't help but think.... if only I could also be attaining 30+mpg, with less noise, less power and more body roll... the danger element just isn't there with such a safe and boring car as a 507bhp M6...

Anyone know the guy that bought a 635d... I might swap... although he already knows how good his car is so I doubt he'd accept my car unless I give him a lot of cash too wink
