Well, it's nearly Christmas. If you haven't got them boiling away on the stove by now, they're unlikely to be ready in time. Sprouts seem to evoke the same reaction as marmite; so, do you like them or loathe them?

.....and yes, I've just been watching Countryfile.

hated them as a kid but they are scrummy now.

I love em, just don't overcook them.

Although, they tend to give me wind, but as I am not on the recieving end, and usually asleep by the time they kick in I don't care.

Just finished getting some sprouts ready to go with our Sunday roast (beef, with roast & boiled spuds, carrots, beans, sprouts, and yorkshire puddings). yum

Sprouts shouldn't be overcooked - 15 minutes is plenty.

For those suggesting par-boiling, how long - 5 Minutes?

Also do you par-boil them whole or half/quarter them before ?

TIA.

Leave them whole and don't bother mincing about putting little crosses in the bottom of them. Depending on the size I think 5 minutes dropping into boiling salted water will be the max time they would need. HTH.

I'm quite a fan too, altho I have to agree, overcooked ones aren't fit for the compost heap. Just cooked so they're still nice n crispy, add butter and roasted chestnuts, lovely.

Hated them as a kid, but as an adult I love them. Wouldn't be Christmas dinner without them, and I'll cook them at other times of the year too.

Definitely Nom Nom Nom Nom, with chestnuts (not with water chestnuts which my dozy housemate bought a few years ago laugh). Just don't overcook!

The sideeffects cause great hilarity too!
