From scouting around the web it seems that ADACPlus is the best breakdown/recovery policy if you're thinking of going on the Ring. Has anyone on here joined recently? If so, how? Thanks in advance!

Yep, I joined up before we went over to Spa and the Ring in October and just called them up, most of them speak good english so no worries there (first person spoke enough to talk to but not fully conversant so passed me onto a colleague). Did the whole signup all over the phone, was given a membership number there and then and paid with a card. Full UK and Europe cover and UK is outsourced back to the AA anyway.

TC, how does it work ££ out compared to just joining the AA? (Although you don't get the Ring cover).

Oh it doesn't even compare, I can't remember the figures exactly tbh but for me and my wife I think I paid ADAC about £80 or something, that's full cover UK and Europe for 12 months for any car we are in. The cover in the UK is same as AA top cover (home start, relay etc) and that for the 2 of us I think was going to be about £160, then of course would also have to add Euro Cover multitrip which I think was going to be another £100 or so on top of the UK cover... as I see it, it's a no brainer.

Just to add ADAC is a really good company to go with however, a number of people I know signed up with them because if you were a member you could get your car recovered for free off the 'Ring. In the past year ADAC have lost the 'Ring contract to some other company and so this is no longer the case.

I thought ADAC still did the recovery but it wasn't considered covered under the policy, however at the very least they will recover from the car park etc where I have heard the AA/RAC have an exclusion zone around the ring so it's still a huge benefit - the only dilemma I am having now is that it means I can't renew my AA breakdown warranty which (like my current AA cover) runs out in Feb, with the saving I could still take out the most basic cover and add it to that, but it seems folly and I think I might just chuck it in, not yet claimed on the bugger anyway frown

Do they have any restrictions on vehicle age? I cancelled my AA annual European cover, as they only work with cars ten years old or younger. frown

I've been told this morning that they still recover from the 'Ring, but there is also another company that does recoveries too. I think you are right in saying it's not covered under policies anymore though.

No restrictions on vehicle age! I already have top whack Euro cover for the Cerb if I'm honest through my insurer, Hagerty. However, Plan B is to take the MPV IF the weather before I set off is really bad. I've just fitted new winter tyres to it, so it should get through anything. However my MPV is a 1989 Nissan Prairie (getmecoat) and so ADAC was the only policy that would cover it. Just faxing my application form off to them this afternoon. Seems like great value, and the unofficial word on the street on most forums is that ADAC recovery still stands on the Ring if you should break down.

Hi,

I´m a German Cerbera Driver and a Member of the ADAC. If you have the ADAC Plus Membership they will bring you home if you are in an other country. I´m not shure if they will bring Cars home to UK ?!.

The Membership is on persons not on cars that means they help you and it do not matter which car you drive.

My Cerbera is my 3rd TVR and I never need help form the ADAC for my TVR but 4 times for my Porsche!.

Cheers

I just bought a Tom Tom 1 with Euro maps £119 from Halfords, one years free Euro cover with that. Dunno how good it is till you use it i spose, but plan on getting across the water a couple of times next year.

A guy happened to post this on another forum I'm on, a rather blunt review of ADACs cover:
ADAC cover is rubbish i broke down in dover on way home at 5pm wednesday night took them till thursday 10pm to take me as far as rugby half way to hull where i needed to be

turns out it only gives you 200 euro's worth of cover if had broken down in europe would have only taken me to the ferry

and dont forget to read the small print on any breakdown cover if the cost of the recovey is more than the car is worth they wont recover it

so make sure you have a agreed value on your car that way they cant argue

last year broke down had cover and agreed valve with adrian flux got hire car for 5 days, flight home for me and my passanger and car was back at my house in 2 weeks
I can testify that the above is true, I was his passenger on the year we were flown home by Adrian Flux, and was part of the trip this year when he was stuck in Dover for a day.
