Cordless home phone

Hi Chaps, just trawling the net looking for a present for Mum, one thing she mentioned is a new home phone. Hers has been on it's last legs for years and now hisses so bad it's painful to be on the other end (and not just because my Mum likes to talk lots!!)

I'm looking for a cordless with and answerphone, and pretty easy to use. Anyone got any recommendations?

I've recently bought a Samsung gigaset for my Mum, expensive but crystal clear sound and I've now ordered a similar model for myself (but with VOIP).

I bought a Panasonic set (from Tesco) earlier in the year, then topped up the 3 with a fourth handset. Very versatile and easy to use, especially the answerphone. Excellent sound quality.
Do NOT be tempted by Morgan's special offer; it's rubbish. Luckily I got my money back (less postage).

The BT ones are actually pretty good, even though I hate BT!

Some of the phillips ones are good. My BT Synergy packed up after 18 months.

So did my (v expensive) Philips! Base unit gave up a month ago.

Fingers crossed the new BT set is as good as the other one we have which is 6 yrs old going strong!

But I have a BT Synergy set that after 12 months is next to useless. Of the 3 handsets in the pack, not one has clear sound any more. Each one crackles, pops and hums annoyingly during use. (No, it's not interference before anyone says it...) The main base station stopped charging after a few months, followed recently by one of the slave base charger units.

I'm hoping to treat myself to an iDECT set in the January sales...

BT synergy.. after 2 years and very little use (mobile phones seems cheaper than BT landline!) is next to useless. i won't be buying a BT cordless again.

Panasonic are probably the best DECT phones on the market.

+1 for Panasonic, here, too.

Got 3 DECT handsets around the house with answer machine in the lounge. Answer machine accessible from any handset - excellent sound quality all round.

I'm pleased with BT dect phone I got recently. It has proper answerphone controls on the base station, which is a lot easier to use than keying in an ocscure code, which a lot seem to feature..

We recently bought a 4 pack of Panasonic from CostCo when our Phillips ones kept dropping the connection.

I must admit even though the Panasonic's look nicer they are not as easy to use as the Phillips. For example, the address book on the Panasonic appears to be for each handset rather than for all (unless I'm missing something). With the Phillips you would add your numbers into the address book on one handset and they would be available on all of them.

Also the call history seems to be per handset which is crazy.

Have one of the original Jacob Jensen - style over substance unfortunately!
Siemens got a good rating on The Gadget Show recently, but the B&O at over £600 still won through - who'd have guessed?

Not cordless and doesn't have answerphone, so not exactly "to your brief" but these are the coolest phones around:

However, if you want to stick to something cordless and with answerhone I'd recommend these. Mine are superb.
