I was looking at buying a remote shutter release for my Sony DLSR but was put onto one of these by a friend:-

price is about £15 inc postage from Hong Kong which seems a bargain as the wired release from Sony is £35. Has anyone got one, what do you think of it?

Don't know about this one but I'm also looking at one. Do you know what controls that has? eg autofocus, shutter speeds, bulb setting etc? Better known make (which I was looking at) is Hahnel (www.hahnel.ie) They do a couple HW433 for all makes from around £25 to £50.

I have one the same as this and find it to be excellent, it will trigger at distance and will focus up on a half press of the button. It will also work on a bulb setting. For the little money it costs it is well worthwile.

I dont imagine that the button would allow you to alter the settings of the camera ( other than autofocus with a half press). More likely you would need to alter your settings prior to pressing the button.

thanks Yellabelly, I was half tempted to take a chance anyway at that low price. Reassuring to know they are ok.

Incidently I found a diy version made from a mobile phone hands free kit but my camera is a bit new to be trying this sort of thing with it.

I have an older Phottix one which I got from ebay and it is identical to the Hanhel one apart from it has no make on it, I paid about a tenner for mine a year ago and it is still going strong.

Sorry - shutter speed was wrong description but it does allow you tocontrol the autofocus, bulb and single and continuous shooting functions
