Hi, I was going to the local meeting today and she started 1st time having not moved for nearly 2 weeks. Warmed her up and set off. 1-2 minutes later the MIL light came on and flashed. It stopped, then repeated the sequence again. I turned back for home and it came on all the time. I was worried about it and as a result the whole trip was only 1 mile or so.

Any ideas what the problem is (she is due a service in Jan).

Cheers smile

Only way to find out for sure is plug a laptop in with the software and see what faults are logged. Could be various things, lambda, throttle pot etc..

Thank you for that, I think I'll let them do that at the service then. Way too complex for me smile

I have asked before how do I save my logs or even do logs and send them to some of you guys to see if you can spot whats wrong etc. I have all the gear and as you would say "no idea" i want to know what im going to need to buy /replace before i pull the engine out as once its out i wont be able to run it, and the ease of replcing the parts will be much easier. so want to get the diagnotics done and shopping list ready before she is stripped/not running.

Errr it is not as simple as that. The first thing is what is wrong with the engine in the first place? Why are you taking it out?

Given that information, you can then use the diagnostics in conjunction with other tests etc to diagnose the problem. The diagnostics are not that wide ranging and won't say... this and that needs replacing. They tend to give the engine information that allows you to see what the various components are doing so that the guy working on the car can make the right adjustments to set the engine up and when this can't be done where the problems are likely to be. It doesn't give any direct information about the state of the internals but might give so clues.

The main engine sensors e.g crank, lambda, temp, etc are easy to get to and don't need the engine to be removed. You could replace them all along with the spark plugs/leads/coils/ throttle pots but they are not all cheap parts to replace.

the engine is coming out as the box needs to go for a refurb and i want to see the chasis and paint it etc. i also want to check the engine over, gaskets, power steering rack, manifolds, a bit of a paint and check clutch etc so so i fancy pulling engine out and doing all of the above.

whats wrong with the car : well when cold it wont idle, i need to help it. once warm its fine. i understand what the software is for and that is why i want to show the more experienced my logs so to speak so they can tell that my adaptives are out and the xyz is reading all to cock because ....... that way i will buy the new lambdas/throttle pots etc. i know the software isnt going to say, lambda down, throttle pot broke etc, but im no good at reading the readings and fault finding from that.

it doesnt like idling when cold and sometimes idles for a bit then just stalls. once warm its good as gold. prior to this when i had it onthe diagnostics some readings were out and not matching the readings from the dave hinns literature with the software. so i need help

Whilst I applaud anyone who wants to learn how to look after a Cerb, I still can't for the life of me understand owners who complain about the car's poor running, are unable to sort it out themselves, haven't a clue how to interpret the diagnostics, and what actions to take to remedy it, but then wont take it to a specialist to get it sorted! If you take it to a good cerb Indie, he'll be glad to talk to you about whats happening, and you'll begin to learn a thing or two the car. If you can't afford to take it to a specialist then a Cerbera isn't really the car for you, it's as simple as that.

i want to learn!!! when i feel it needs to go to a specialist then i will take it there, at the moment is running ok all be it a tiny bit poorly.

once the gear box is refurbed and it actually engages 2nd smoothly and the car is in a tidy state "body wise" and niggle wise then i will take it to a specialist for a thourough check and rolling road set up (no point now with a poopy 2nd gear). whats the point in going now and paying for a few bits to be done, then stripping it for a chaisis paint etc and putting the engine back in and paying to go back for a rolling road and other tune ups.

I may aswell try and do what I can, then take a trip to a specialist for real help. I dont know about you guys but i don't like to throw money away by numerous trips to specialists. i may aswell do it all in one go.

Whats the point in newbies having software if people wont help them interpret it.

Sorry for asking guys.

If I were you, I'd find a decent specialist and talk to them. Most are more than happy to explain what's going on, what they are doing and how they are doing it, and, to be honest, most will know more about the software and how to diagnose and resolve issues than a lot of the chaps here (no offence meant guys!). I take mine to Paul at PPC in Melton and we always end up chatting about this and that. He's always happy to pass on a bit of advice, or discuss a potential issue, and I have put a lot of business his way because of that attitude (unlike Mercedes who tried to charge the wife £105+VAT for a set of 4 spark plugs the other day!!).

I mean, sure, they're not going to give you a free 2 hour training session, but I would be surprised if they wouldn't explain what they're doing, when they do it. Then at least next time you can have a crack yourself armed with the experience of watching the pro's perform.

And besides, if I am going to fiddle with anything "expensive", I prefer to know the advice came from someone who really knows what they're doing, than from reading 40 vague and often contradicting posts on an internet forum wink

wavey I feel the same! Although I am very lucky in that I do get a LOT of help and advice. I don't tackle anything too risky - but most people will let me know whether or not it's something I can/should do myself. In the past, it's often a nothing to lose situation anyway.

I'm not over brave - but I do love 'trying' to do stuff to the car smile. Does sometimes mess up my nail polish though tongue out.

in not after a miracle, ive got the software and lead and have no problem in connecting it and reading the results, i just want some help on some dicky readings and peoples opinions on why some readings are out or incorrect etc.

If i decide to take the forums answers and buy a part that doesnt cure my problem then its my bad luck for listening to the forum and not paying to have it properly diagnosed in the 1st place.

just someone to view my logs and see what culprets could be causing it thats all im after

even when the readings are read you can still get the... mmmmmm now it could be this. So on goes the new widget and bingo sorted or its widget plus another widget.

rather simple explanation i feel.

like all jobs those that have the gift and years of knowledge just have the gut instinct as to where the problems are and the software just points them in the right direction.

Question: as for what all those bouncing numbers mean.

Answer: when there not even take the car to the garage.
