I ve just bought a Forester 02 plate and was wondering how I can get the car to 220 + odd Hp like its Impreza brother without spending money on new exhausts or air filters . I was thinking of ECU Remap but I 'm in the dark. Don't know if the Impreza remap would do it. Is the engine not the same as the Impreza ?

Can you confirm it's a 2.0L Turbo thumbup

I've just had a look at the std Turbo'd MY01/02 ROM image for this ECU (Denso) and there is some reasonable room for improvement still leaving all the standard bits on if this uses the TD04 Turbo same as the XT's, then it should be no problem to do.

many thanks appreciate your knowledge. I was hoping to put the chip in before my wife drives it so that she thinks car is that quick standard - ha ha.
do you know if my Turbo XT has the plug in type ECU as there is an ECU remap available on Ebay just now but guy did say my turbo has to be TD05?

I've now found out the std Forester XT turbo for UK cars is the TF035. It's the size of a barbie hairdryer and having looked again at the std map for this it's not worth messing about with too much as you won't get more than a couple of useful extra PSI boost out of it, and not worth paying someone £hundreds to map for this turbo. Waste of time!!

Upgrades would be a TD04 as found on WRX's or TD05, again a step up from the TD04. The problem with the TD05 is that your injectors are std WRX 380cc therefore the TD05 would be maxxing those out bigtime before you get near what the TD05 is really capable of and it's more laggy than the TD04.

The TD04 is an ideal upgrade, very little lag and matches your injectors perfectly. They are cheap to buy (£50-£100, look on Ebay. It's a very straightforward upgrade/swap and will give you a sigificant boost in power over the standard Forester, even if you only copy over the standard map settings from a WRX ECU to your ECU it will have the same output as a std WRX (215 - 225bhp) in which case you should then be running the car on 99RON fuel only (Tesco 99RON or V-Power) and it will go like the bloody clappers. In fact i'm willing to bet the ROM from a V.7 WRX (A4SE900D/A4SE700D) will flash straight onto your ECU (A4SE700E) and run properly too with just a couple of minor adjustments/tweaks!!

With further mods on top of that (air filter, snorkus mod, decat uppipe and sports exhaust system you should see 280bhp no probs!! If you were closer to me i would map yours to get the most possible out of your current setup and you would notice the difference with a bit more torque lower down and mid-range, and some more power top end to keep it up there but IMHO not worth paying lots of money for.

Get the turbo mod done at least and then a std V.7 WRX ROM flashed onto yours. You'll think it was a different car!! thumbup
