Taking laptop on holiday: Yay or Nay?

Yep, when we go boating on the Norfolk Broads. I use a T-Mobile pay-as-you-go broadband connection for internet.

(Great for watching the footy at the weekend, as you don't get Sky on boats !)

Yes BUT I only take the home laptop, not the work one. Use it to download photos from the camera or connect to Wifi provided we're in a civilised part of the world and I need some info on the area pronto

I do, as I invariably have to fix something at work whether I'm 10 miles away or 3,000 .. the joys of small businesses and self-employment

The Dominican Republic did not have GPRS so I had to use dialup .. over my mobile ..

I learnt a few years ago that it is a huge release to not wear a watch all the time, it really doesn't matter what the time is as long as you get on the plane at each end.

Last time I needed it was last year in Bangkok.
I was on the back of a motorcycle taxi and couldn't pronounce where I needed to go so I found the company website and showed the page to the rider.

I would if I could afford one of those teeny tiny ones, but I simply can't justify lugging a full size laptop through the airport with me. Far too much hassle. And my wife would kill me with my having used up so much of our weight allowance.

usually I dont, as it's heavy and costly to replace, but I've been considering getting a cheapo netbook, which I probably would take as they are small and not to expensive and suprisingly useful.

Depends where you are going; if I was going on a lazy holiday in the sun I'd say definately not. I wish I'd took it to Vegas with me though as there was a connection in the room and it would made checking what's on a lot easier.

I always take mine, but mainly to download/store/look at photos - I can fill my memory card up in a day easily.

Depends on type of holiday, driving around Europe I took both my work and home laptop as one was for photo's and the other was needed for doing some work whilst travelling!

Without a car to leave it in, I doubt I'd take any.

Yep, Watch films and TV on the flight, upload photos to it from the digital camera. Use it to check in online when away, it is also used for local info and online deals once we are there.

I did, but then again on a wet night on holiday in Cornwall what else are you supposed to do.

I take mine to locate decent bars etc. I'll be taking my ipod touch from now on though, since it does all I'll need it to.
