New Toyo RA1's
Discussion
Hi all, ordered some new tyres for the Esprit a while back and they finally arrived the other day and fitted. I am very very happy with them, very sticky as expected and just makes the car go even better on corners without having to worry about slipping off.
I replaced my Bridgestone Potenzas with Toyo Racing RA1’s. Recommend them, although being a softer compound wear and tear is not on their priority list. I am hoping to get perhaps 2yrs out of them. We shall see. Cant wait for the track days for a real play.

I have those tires (RA-1s) on my race car (a Triumph TR8). All "R" compound tires (Toyos, Kumhos, Hankooks, the Goodyear GS-SC, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup and the Hoosier) are in a totally different class when it comes to pure grip than even the "ultra" high performance S0-3s, Pilot Sports and SP-9000s. It's just a much softer, much sticker compound and aggressive tread. ON the track, there is no comparision. R tires are probably worth 2-4 seconds a lap at a minimum, dependig on the course.
For street driving, the Toyos and the Kumhos at full tread level aren't too bad and can even handle light rain. I'd be interested to hear your feedback on living with the RA-1 on a street car, because I'd eventuall like to put those on my (new, to me anyway) 93 Esprit.
You will LOVE that tire on the track though.

Thanks Jeff
that's what I was hoping to hear. I have only heard good things about them, but have not heard of other Esprit people here in NZ who use them so I could check them out. So am totally stoked now. I only bring the car out on weekends and or the odd track day, so its not really a daily driver, hence hoping for extended life of the tyres. It was a little treat to myself.
