Additional speeding fines?
Discussion
One of my Le Mans gang was caught speeding on a N-road south of LM last summer. Irritating, but all fair enough... he had his licence taken away and paid a €135 fine
The licence was posted back to him in August, and he was told he was banned in France for 3 months. We thought it was all done & dusted...
However, he has recently received another letter which seems to be asking for a further €135 in fines. I think it says the judge has imposed the fine, rather than asking him to go to court. See below:

He's probably going to pay it - it's just not worth the additional hassle if he gets stopped for anything at LM09 and this gets dragged back up (although he's missed the 30 day window, so will have more fees slapped on him!)
However, has anyone else had this? I know the Prefecture can impose further fines prior to sending the licence back, but I didn't realise they could do this again several months later?

Now I dont read or speak much french, but im wondering if this paperwork is to go with the original 135 Euro fine?
There must be some legal boys on here that know this stuff? If not I guess you could always ask the AA Legal dept, they might be able to shed some more light on the matter?
Please keep us posted

First, you have to understand the famous joke here about civil servants: what is the difference between a civil servant and a chap on the dole?
The answer? The bloke on the dole has already worked for a living.
This would seem just to be a confirmation of the fine but at the same time sems to ask for paymnet. Do you have the receipt or proof that you have already settled this fine? If not - screwed. If you have, write to me in english and I'll translate in French so you can write to the court pointing out that you have already paid.

Your on the spot fine at the roadside was infact a deposit pending the court case, the paperwork received was confirmation of the courtcase and a receipt for the fine that coincidently was the same as the roadside deposit. How do I know? I was also caught in June.
So thats it then, no more monies to pay?Hi,
I got done last year, paid the fine on the spot like a good lad and got exactly the same letter in teh post 4 months later and crapped meself. However, I got a French geezwor that I work with to give them a call (once I spent 2 hours translating the letter) and they said it was a confirmation letter. I got a 2 year ban (doing 135mphy in my saab). This year I can drive again.... going on a Suzuki GSXR 1000 this time for the fresh air feel you understand.
Do not fret.
