ideas for raising money...?

Hi guys,

I'm in my 3rd year doing product design at uni, and all of us on the course need to raise some money
in order to pay for a stand at the new designers convention in london. This is about £2000+

We need some ideas for raising money,

so far we've got:
1. Sleep in a cardboard box outside for 2 days - 1 week
2. Pro Evo/Call of Duty tournament on PS3/Xbox360
3. Shave heads bald
4. Shave legs
5. Swim a few lengths at the local lake thats scummy as ****

im sure you guys must have some ideas, welcome to suggest anything!
have thought bout buying a cheap banger and tarting it up a bit to flog it, but this would need us to get some
cash to buy it in the first place... which none of us really have.. (only 13 on the course)

I note that your ideas, similar to many charity doings, involve things which although probably not much fun to do, don't actually benefit any one else in any way. Perhaps you could think of some things that would, such as , for instance, removing the scum from the lake rather than swimming in it.

I can't remember how many times I've seen charities dong stunt stuff instead of doing anything useful. Shame, missed oportunity IMO

Write to the conference organisers with a decent "pitch"

They want and need young talent to drive a sucessful event, you have something to showcase, it could be beautiful but ugly money is preventing it. Perhaps they could offer you a reduced entry fee ?

Ask the Dean of your university to write to them also, perhaps the Uni will feel that they could underwrite your costs as its good exposure for the University

etc etc

Think about who might indirectly benefit from your idea and contact them

Show them that benefit, offer them something they cannot get without your idea/vision/effort and try to quantify that benefit through research...

Why not? Might be more interesting if the OPer was female and blew £2k on lap dancers. Esp if "she" provided pics.

Three days shelf stacking / retail / any kind of paid work over your extensive student xmas holidays should cover it!

well out of the course only 3 or 4 people will actually get to go to it, so nobody is going to fork it out from their own pockets, unless they are certain they are going...and they wont be certain until everybody has completed their projects which is bout 1 week before the show..

the ideas about doing something usefull is quite good, most money rasing things arent actually benificial to people so i can see that being quite good..

yes we could all get jobs, but as i said, nobody is going to chip in their own money unless they certain they are going!

oh, and writing to the organisers asking for reduced cost entry is out of the question as its pretty much a massive degree show, with all the different universities showing off their product design..

5 mile fun run.
Bike ride.
4 team continuous 100k indoor row (i'll pay you a £5 if you do this)

Personally, i would not contribute! You do that kind of thing to raise money for charity rather than to further your own needs!

You need money so you can do something you want to do and you want someone else to pay for it!
