I have a Japanese Import Toyota Prado with the original stereo. I think that the previous owner installed a frequency shift adaptor to make the radio work on the UK frequency band but it seems to have stopped working and I'm limited to Radio 2!! I can't find anything online to replace the adaptor (I think I must be looking for the wrong thing) - any idea where I can get hold of one?

Thanks
Ray

Why don't you just install a UK purchased car cd player that comes with a proper working radio. Much simpler than messing about with the band converter for a JDM car radio, and car stereos are cheap enough these days. You could i supppose pick up an almost identical OEM radio for your car that came out of a UK car and fit that.

Unless of course you prefer the JDM effort and want to keep it all painfully original smile

I lived with the frequency convertor on the original radio in my imported GTO for six months or so because the radio itself was so good. But I couldn't find a CD changer to work with it (even though the wiring for one was still there. Worse, the frequency convertor didn't just add 10MHz to signals, it added multiples of 10 MHz so, for instance, radio 2 on 90.3 interfered with Classic on 100.3.

Nostalgia's not all it's cracked up to be. Ditch the old radio and get a decent new one fitted. Halfords sell the necessary conversion connector.

If you really just want to replace the broken bit, an FM band expander is what you're looking for.

Currently trying to figure out what to do with the Japanese double DIN stereo in my new car...

Lots of chat about frequency expanders on another forum and although they can improve things they dont seem to be very good.
