So we go out walking, driving etc. in aid of taking the one amazing shot we all aim for.

As a hobby where do you further yourself. What do you aim for?

Do you look at you photo's over and over. Do the people who you show them to appreciate the art/skill/rubbishness of them?

etc etc.

Your thoughts

To me its a release and an escape. Long term I aim to turn some money from it based on portraits

To me it's a number of things; it gets me out of the house and gives me something to focus on when I don't have my daughter; it's a challenge; I spent years sitting on trains watching the world go by on my way to and from work, always seeing things I thought would make great photographs - there are only so many images you can store in your mind.

My main aim though is to get close to the standard displayed by others on here and have fun on the way.

For me it's a stress reliever, and provides me with something to do when on holiday (instead of simply sitting by a pool).

I don't look at my own photos often, but do like looking at others' as much as I can - a service like Flickr is excellent for this.

It's been a passion of mine since High School, was the only subject I enjoyed, and can still remember the smell of the darkroom even now cloud9 Used to have a Practica slr back in the days (over 20 years ago), but it's only recently that I've been able to afford to get back into it. It's an amazing hobby for me, and to see one or two shots that make my jaw drop makes it all worthwhile. Still got a huge amount to learn, but always keen to do so!

A bit of fun really. I like the feeling when I do something good, and I like the learning experience when I achieve something for the first time. Digital SLRs have changed the way I take photos now as the immediate feedback means I can make immediate changes and know I'll walk away with the photo I want.

I am determined not to take it too seriously and I'll never make any money out of it (certainly nothing to rival my proper job). However, I do like this site http://www.dpchallenge.com/ and I enter the competitions as it forces me to be creative and aim for a result, rather than just taking pics of the things around me. I think it's improved my photography.

it helps me forget about work and I enjoy creative things like photography and play guitar.

I have carefully honed by own style - cack - and I constantly admire some of the guys on here who take shots I can only dream of being able to do, so it fulfils my need to constantly improve in whatever I try to do.

Cheers

ETA - two of my favourite togs on here are the two who posted after me, bit spooky that!

I'm trying to catch a moonbeam in my hand. (Failing)

Lots of people come and visit here 'cos of my photos. That's nice in a warm glow kinda' way.

Time it right and it's God's own up here. Time it wrong and you won't see a fking thing.

I didn't inherit any of the creative talent of my parents (my father, especially, could sing, paint, turn his hand to wood and metal work - I failed my Grade 2 piano and left metalwork with a paperweight) - this is probably the nearest I'll ever get to turning out something which provides a half a smile to people in any sort of artistic way!

Bit of a get away from it kinda thing. I like nothing better than going to race meetings car shows or just on my push bike with the camera in my backpack looking to get better every time.

It's an escape for me, whenever i look through the view finder it's like looking into another world. A world where i get to create the way it looks to other people.
