As per title, we live out in the sticks, when we moved into the house we found a dead mouse upstairs, Died from poisoning so obviously someone had put poison down.

Anyway, yesterday evening the wife came flying into the sitting room screaming ( just as top gear was starting so i told her to feck off hehe ) turns out we have a little feild mouse in the kitchen eek

Anyway, after top gear, i went and found the little fecker but i couldn't get him out, i managed to get it into the utility room, open the back door and waited for it to run out.

I couldn't catch it, it was far too quick!

What is the best way to stop this from happening again? i cant see how it got in....

You'll never beat them! Accept the fact you'll always have them and invest in a cat!

I caught 3 mice last night...

Buy some traps - don't use glue traps, and don't use poison, or you'll end up with rotting mouse bodies stuck all over the place, where you can't get to them, stinking the hoose out!

You live 'in the sticks'. Field mice live there too. Even you will have noticed that they are extremely small animals. They will invariably get in to your home.

My suggestion is the only practical way to ensure that you never come across such a horrendous situation ever again.

Have a nice day.

I must admit it does sound a tad like people that move near an airport and then complain about the noise!

Go to the gym, get fitter, catch the mice.

Serious: they were there before you, you won't get rid of them.

Yeah was thinking about that, might get some tonight and give it a try, its only the second one i've seen so i dont think its a massive problem, i just dont want the little fkers chewing wires etc.

Cat or move - welcome to the country! thumbup

Our house in France is half a kilometre from the nearest neighbours, but the large numbers of mice in and around our house still attracts a number of different cats who come hunting smile

Beheader traps are the only way.

Like someone has said, the others may let them wander off in to inaccessible bits before they croak.

I seem to recall a field mouse can get through a hole not much bigger than a typical mortice lock keyhole. So they will always find a way in.

Poison is an option, although its far easier to accept it, as when they die from poison under the floor they smell for a long time.

If you can't live with them, kill them, use traps (none of that humane st) but make sure everyone knows where they are.

Start that in Jan frownlaugh

I'm not bothered to much about the fact they are there, more of the worry that they will start chewing stuff they shouldn't and nesting places they shouldn't.

If they where normal mice or rats then yes, i'd be popping off rounds around the house by now hehe

If its a toss up between a cat or moving......... welcome my furry friends!! hehe

I'll get some traps out and see if it works, its not like we have hundreds living in the house, as i say i've only seen one alive, plus the dead one.

First off, tell your wife to "GET A FEKIN GRIP"

Its a small mouse, not a flamin tarantula.

Having Mice in and about the house when you live in the country is a good sign anyway, it means you dont have a rat problem.

You live in the country, you should expect to share your property with the local residents to a small extent. A field mouse (which seem to move at lightspeed!!!) is no threat to your health and safety. Its only after a little warmth and sustinance during the hard winter times. I'm not saying encourage it, but really, do you think its going to ruin your life? No.

Suggest you go and get a couple of those old Disney DVDs for your missus for christmas. You know, the ones with the singing rodents that help about the house. Sweet.

Only seen one, guaranteed there are hundreds though.
