Hiring a cottage for the weekend

Looking to go away for the weekend with the mrs sometime end of Jan. Have no idea where but would like a nice cottage somewhere in the England, all the standard spew inc log fire etc etc

Anyone have any recommendations? Added bonus if you can take a pet dog

Have a look at Landmark Trust for some amazing places to stay, quite a lot of their places allow dogs from memory, although they restrict it on certain ones due to historic nature etc.

Visit delightful East Anglia and you can see Wicken Fen and some fantastic views.

Yep, we've stayed at several Landmarks with our mutt.

There are some truly stunning properties (forget it if you absolutely have to have all mod cons - Sky TV and all that crap) even if you're restricted to those which are doggy friendly. Not the cheapest, but the novelty of staying in some fantastically interesting bits of architecture more than compensates.
