What is the labour on this in terms of hours for a specialist? The reason i ask is that parts along from Lotus for mine were £70. This included cambelt, alternator belt and tensioner which should all be replaced. That would leave £130 for the labour based on £200, £55 per hour + Vat for 2 hours.

I was advised every 4 years or 48k miles whichever comes first as the belts can deteriorate with age as well as mileage.
This is true - the main worry for belts is not the mileage, it is the constant cold and hot temperatures, lack of use even, which can 'harden' them and make them more prone to snapping.I think there is little to no pressure on the belt when the engine is warm and cruising along merrily.
Having said that, as others have touched upon, more important that overdoing change intervals is making sure whoever does the work knows what they are doing. If they don't, at best you'll get a miserable engine and drive, at worst that new belt will snap and take most of the engine with it.
So in many ways it is better to keep the obviously well working one and exceed the interval, than rush to your local cheap shop and all hell breaks loose.
I've been quoted 270 quid all in at a recognised independent - includes new tensioner, which makes sense.

any ideas on pricing?
Sportmotive in Salisbury are a really good local indy and favoured by many of the Boloc's. Try calling 01722 410 893 and speak to Cos or Dave.ant111s said:
