Debate on radio 4 today about the usual; should England have its own Parliament which deals with English issues. How do we deal with budgets, defence, forgein policy etc if we have in effect 4 countries in one loser union? Should we ALL get a vote on whether Scotland gets independence (the SNP are geared up for a vote before the next Scottish Parliamentary elections).

Has Gordon Brown diassociated himself from the "claim of right" in which he gives an oath to put their interests above others?

Two things that had my piss simmering.
1) England - £7.50 for an adult presecription, Scotlad - FREE.
2) Dartmouth bridge toll increased from £1 to £1.50. Scotland - FREE.
We should ALL get a vote on Scottish independance as it affects ALL of us.

1 is not true and the revenue lost from the removal of the bridge tolls costs you nothing as it comes out of the existing Scottish budget. Two things that had my piss simmering.

Regarding independance most Scottish people (including me) do not support it.
I think that the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish regional assemblies are a cracking idea and should have the final say in deciding how they spend the tax money raised in those regions of the UK (using EU terminology as they aren't really self governing countries).
I can't wait until we have an English assembly - only the tosspots in Westminster and Strasbourg have carved England up into a number of regional governmental areas, with their own regional Government Offices and teh Labour drive was for regional assemblies - until TTP (That t
t Prescott) got his arse spanked in the North East when the populous voted against them.
Let's just use the Palace of Westminster with no MPs for non-English contituencies allowed to vote on English issues - much fairer IMO. (and good bye to any Labour say in England)

No,devolution is a silly idea. The UK has achieved far more together than it's constituent parts have ever achieved apart. Something that silly, mal-educated nationalists across the UK should remember.

Talking to a Scot the other week about this, and the simple fact seems to be that Labour let the proverbial genie out of the bottle and its never going back in. What is sad that it never needed to happen.England and Scotland (and Northern Ireland and Wales) have enjoyed an immensely successful union for a very long time, its a union that has worked well, and would continue to work well, but its being torn apart for no other reason than various politicians out for glory, politicians who are desperate to leave their mark in history for change rather than leaving their mark for being an outstanding leader.
