Christmas drinks at lunchtime set off some pointless discussions today. one of which being...
Plenty of films and TV productions have some reasonably high end cars being trashed. Lets face it all petrol heads let out a little whimper when "the" Muira takes a shunt over the cliff assisted by a bulldozer, whether it was a real one or not.
Question is, how many of these cars that are trashed are real and in "full working order" and what happens to them after filming? Are they seen as a (relatively) low cost disposable item in terms of film / TV production, or are they really just stripped out shells from a scrappy? How many are patched up to return in other series? I seem to recall that Morse's MkII was continuously rebuilt and used in other productions.

I beleive most cars are shells - try to sopt any can in most "action" movies that has an engine in it when it gets trashed - it;s a stunt mule...
however, the non smashed cars are often real, esp the extras. Grey A6 allroad in Transprter anyone? I saw it about 20,000 times in the film, then it was on the M6 toll last week. =)

when filming Doomsday (set in Scotland, filmed somewhere like New Zealand or South Africa) they asked for Conti GT's, but couldn't get any for free, so they bought 3.
