Been busy today tracking down a chirping squeaky pulley on the A/C side of things thats appeared after all the crappy damp cold weather, anyway I found a whining noise coming from the PS pump.
Its not really loud or anything but you can hear it in the car changing with the revs like a tiny supercharger. The fluids ok (good level / clean) and the steering feels fine, do they all do this or is a 100odd mile trip to my approved Monaro dealer?

Thanks

Mike

Good to here someone else has it too. Seen a few folk on the GTO site going on about a whining sound too. I did the old screwdriver to the ear trick and pinpointed it to the PS pump. Hopefully its just normal I cant see any reason for it failing.

It’s normal to hear when leaking or low level fluid, however it might be an air lock, take cap off, fill to brim, start engine and rotate steering wheel to get PS pump working, you might want to put a drip tray underneath as it will no doubt spill out over top, this is my crude way of getting air out. Had to do this a lot with a leaking pump until I replaced it, hope this is of some help.

^^^ What he said. The last time I had that whine was when I had a leak and lost most of the PS fluid. The leak was fixed under warranty and now the noise only happens on full lock.

Thanks guys, i'll give it a bash tomorrow. Failing that then its another thing to add to the warranty list i'm going to hit them with while i can.
