Floor Board Sanding.

Afternoon all,

After having the floor boards replaced in the front room and hallway, we are looking at having the new ones varnished.

My first idea was to hire a floor sander. Then a guy at work said it would be a bit overkill and to just use an orbital sander as the boards were new. Now the bloke who fitted them has said to basically use an eraser to get rid of the pencil marks from nailing, then use the rough side of a wet scourer to rub the muck and dust away.

Must be someone out there with experience of this......

depends on roughness of board and floor area.

I redid the boards in my old house using a standard bosch sheet sander in about 3-4 hours. Room was c 4m x 4m.

If they are new a big floor sanding machine is probably a bit overkill, although it would be very quick.

We recently did ours, but then the floorboards are very old & were in a very sorry state. It was a nasty job, made a right mess.

If you're just sanding down measurement markings & a few proud edges, I would probably use some sort of disk sander personally.
