Ive done a search and seen nothin so far... quite surprised it hasnt been mentioned.
I am over the moon that this Mercer lad has been locked up. Killing an innocent 11 year old lad, with a gun, f**k me, give me 10 mins with this lad, no weapons. I'll show him justice.
Ive just listened to an hour of Reece Jones Trial on Century FM and honestly, it takes a lot, but my p*ss is at boiling point. The murdering scum already had an ASBO for threatening to set a security guard on fire, he had been stopped by police 80!!! times in the last 3 years and had been expelled from countless schools.
I wish to god someone had put a bullet through his head before he got the chance to do this to the poor lad.
Absolute scum.
I listened to an interview with the last person to speak to him, offered him a lift home but he kept saying no, and he said he was going out of his mind, if he had spoke to him for 2 seconds later the bullet would have missed him.

No you wouldn't. You'd show him more violence and stupidity.Seems the me the judge dealt with justice in the way a civilised society expects,

We do not take a life for a life, although even if you are released, you will be under licence and supervised for as long as you live, liable to immediate recall to prison if you do anything wrong. Accordingly, the punishment for this crime is that you serve detention for life. You must serve a minimum period of 22 years before you can be considered for release on licence. Take him down."

He hasn't just killed a young lad, hes taken away the life of his parents.
This is the only language these scum understand.
Looking at it again - I see your point. I WOULD just show him more violence and stupidity.
However, following this needless violence and stupidity, he would be thrown away, without a chance of coming out on license, on bread and water, in a square cell without the TV/Playstation he will inevitably own, and without the new identity when he came out. He wouldnt be coming out. He wouldnt get the chance to spread the word that violence and stupidity is the way.

Whilst not trying to absolve Sean Mercer of blame (it really boils my urine too - especially that he'll be 40 when he's released, enough time to still have a fairly decent life if he wants) this kind of incident will only become more prevalent in a society that does nothing about aportioning some parental responsibility.
As you say, this Mercer lad had been stopped many times, was the subject of an asbo etc - if this lad had been brought up properly by his parent(s) he wouldnt have been part of the gang that was involved in the shooting.
Ok, Sean and a few of his cronies are now banged up for a few years but there will be other young kids ready to take his place and the gang culture won't disappear overnight just because he's off the scene.
This scum is now so widespread that it's accepted, no-one bats an eyelid when they see stories in the media about how they have shot/stabbed each other but I feel that 'collateral damage' to innocent people caught up in the crossfire is going to be become so common that it too will fail to be shocking anymore.
Tough action needs to be taken on the parents of any juvenile found to be breaking the law - make the parents take responsibility for their childrens actions & be tough on them when they do. If parents aren't going to be good & decent parents by choice then make them.

Of course it is.Its scary, I live 20 mins away from this area.
I have no reason to personally venture into this area but who knows, it could have been a friend of the family, my cousin delivering photocopiers, who knows.
The world is seriously a scary place to be.
Firstly, i am very pleased Mercer is locked up, it may not change the way he thinks about what he has done, but he is off the streets for now and I'm not sure he will enjoy being in Prison where I think people are Tougher than he is.
For me, the real question is what happens to the area where Rhys was shot? It was "owned" by Mercer's gang and they were at war with another gang. This is the underlying cause of the problem, the gang culture and the people I feel sorry for are the residents caught up in this. No doubt someone is taking Mercer's place on the street and will continue his lifestyle
I wish I had an attempt at the answer, but I don't. I want to think the roots are in the breakdown of society, the lack of parenting, the choice of living the welfare lifestyle, but I really just can't tell.

I could easily be wrong on this, but talking many years ago to a couple of people who had been inside, they said that anyone killing a child would be treated in the same way as paedo's. Might not be true in this case, but he has to watch his back for at least the first few years. In a YOI, won't someone be looking to make a name for themselves? Perhaps sharing a cell with Charles Bronson in a real prison would be best
