last 4.2's were really 4.5's?
Discussion
No, I am still primarily interested in S6's but that does not prevent me from reading other advert's?!
And I am looking for some education.....
Anyway, I noticed that Hamilton Cars have a 2004 4.2 for sale which seems to have a 4.5 engine as they say was the case for all end of series 4.2's....
My first question would be if this indeed was the case, but then I would also be interested in finding out if it was the drysump 4.5 or the 4.2 block with 4.5 capacity? Last but not least: I have no idea if there was a difference between the 4.2's and 4.5's in terms of set up (suspension, throtte travel etc etc) in the earlier years, but would that have disappeared in 2004 (with the 4.2 essentially being a 4.5?)
Strange really that TVR would have marketed the same car with 2 names...
thx

Not really true. When my 4.2 was replaced the first time, it came back with the 4.5 style engine. The story was that it was a 4.5 in disguise and TVR would never deny or confirm they had done that. When the engine got rebuilt again, it was a 4.2 internally.
I would not pay a premium for a 4.2 car on the basis "that it's really a 4.5 cos that was TVR fitted". I suspect it did happen occasionally but it seems to be a myth that many like to have perpetuated.

so what happens if you think its a 4.2 and !!!!! you put some one in hosp or worse due to a accident and then the fine tooth combe comes out from the insurance co and they look real real deep???? and its not a 4.2 but you thought it was oh
It's not going to happen, TVR just used what was around at the time, you could never be held responsible for that.I doubt the original dealer even knew.

To loose a Cerb and kill yourself/pas, or hospitalize the same or another road user, you'd have to be driving in a manor w holey inappropriate for the road, A Cerb doen't kill you should you crash it at normal speeds.
I am sure that would negate any extra 300cc's in court to be honest, for that is the only accident that would reveal such.
There was such a case here.
One of our own gang was tragically killed. The police approach a well known TVR man, to assertaine weather the ECU can be unlocked to show speed or any other data.
What the police did know, was the car had just passed a Scooby on a slip road at warp factor ten.
Don't think I don't realise, that witness statements can be full of inaccuracies, the fact is somewhat negated, considering the car then went straight into the oncoming roundabout, killing the driver.
but your right ignorance isn't no defense.
Happy Christmas by the way,
But I would love to hear a judge say.
" Mr Four hundred horsepower, you shall be taken from hear to a place where you shall be hanged from the neck untill dead.
You sir, have committed the heinous crime of,,,,,,,,,,,,,(deathly silence from the public gallery),
Having a 4.5.
Take him down".

Show me two standard TVR's that are exactly the same spec. Handbuilt cars, usually built with whatever is to hand - makes for some interesting variables in the build of them. Insurance co's arent stupid and this is probably factored into thier quotes. For an insurance company to rip apart the engine and measure everything would be a rather in-depth assessment, one that would generally mean they would know how TVR worked, that they used whatever was to hand and it would therefore not be the owners fault things may be slightly different.
ok...ill get back to the royal variety show, just got to get the heads back on now that ive measured the holes and the stroke and checked the compression and the all important big end slap, oh and must advise the insurance that I put some high oct petrol in today intead of the standar octain... cant be too care full now can I..
