Why can I not start a poll?

I appear to be able to start Wiki threads but not a poll. Is there a reason for this?

I honestly cannot remember. I don't recall seeing it there but then I don't think I've ever looked for it before.

We haven't made the poll facility available to all, though I thought with the length of time on the site you should have had it added by now.
