Carrying on from my drunken postings last night on Rhys Jones and Sean Mercer being found guilty and locked up for 22 years at her majestys pleasure - the day was also the 39th anniversary of the day that the death penalty was abolished in this country...

Listening to some radio presenter this morning on our local radio, he said he was happy and that it was a momentous occasion for human right etc etc. He went into raptures about other countries who were killing kids, not just adults etc.

So, looking at it with a slight slant, and with regards to Sean Mercer, it got me thinking.

I was listening to something on the news last night and one kid was saying 'we need to carry guns, we need to fight for our estate, its a way of life, its either kill or be killed and its not going to end - we'll either be dead or in prison and i know which one id prefer'.

I entirely agree that prison is not a deterrent for people like this, they accept it as a way of life, accept that they will be in and out of prison for most of their lives. Hey, its just a danger of the occupation, right?

How about if the danger of the occupation was death? Not some cushy, playstation 3 filled hobby hole where they can interract with other like minded criminals?

Im pretty sure that would act as a deterrent - 'If i pull this trigger and im caught, I may die very painfully by falling through a trap door with a rope around my neck?'

It would save us taxes plus be rid of scum, but it has to be 100% no doubt that someone murderised someone.

I’m split on the death penalty. It’s one of those situations where if a member of your family was seriously abused or killed by a stranger you’d want them lynched.

However, I think a better idea would be to make prisons a complete and utter hell hole. Cut public spending, just give them books to read and the basics (why do they need a TV?). Simple food, cheap beds etc.

Inmates should also be made to do really stty jobs that no one wants to do.

None of this, “oh you’ve been a good boy inside prison, here you go, here’s a PS3”. fk off. “Oh you’ve been a good boy inside prison, now if only you’d been so good on the outside and not killed someone you stupid fk. Now go and wash the toilets”.

The death penalty doesn't work as a deterrent. Just look at the number of inmates on death row in the USA.

Then there is unrest in the prisons and the prison wardens suffer, plus all these moron human rights protesters start being wkers.

But it gets rid of scum that could commit murder again.

Oh I agree completely. All I'm saying is it doesn't stop them committing the sort of crime which warrants the death penalty.

Sound proof the walls so they can't hear the screams? There's ways around the unrest! Plus some money saved can go towards pay increases.

I'm sorry, but you lose your human rights when you decide to take someone elses life or have sexual experiances with kids.

Well its just the way of the world, it certainly doesnt make killing someone any more inclined to murder someone because they could get the death penalty.

I'm completly against it

Pointless to argue about it. People either for it or against it have very strong convictions which aren't going to be changed by googling some things and posting links

We need to intruduce a category style prison system based on severity of crime and contrition shown by the defendant.

Grade A would be a sess pit of despair where inmates never see the light of day and are forced to pointless manual labour such a smaching rocks. Food should be tasteless but nutritious. There should be no pleasures and inamtes should be given drugs to stop them even maturbating their days away (chemical castration...?)

grade B would be slightly less severe etc etc

This would work its way down to Grade E which would be something like the general prisins we have now.

Over time, and through VERY VERY good conduct, and with the prisoner showing genuine remorse and contrition and rehabilitation, the prisioner could EARN movement from Grade A to grade B etc.

This would ensure that prisioners convicted of the most serious crimes would activly fear a Grade A prison sentance, and would try their best to gain the privalidge of a less severe prison grade.

We dont need the death penalty, we need real fear of being caught/sentanced/punished.

And these prisoners, after years of endless psychological abuse, you'd be happy to release them back into society? I'm not saying give them ps3s, books & cheap beds sounds like a winner, but im not sure abusing them will make them a better person at the end of it, quite the opposite infact.

If they're not fit to integrate into society after their stint in prison they will have to stay behind locked doors.
