Hi there,

I was wondering about a flying visit to the Geneva Motor Show in 2009 (it's March 5-15) and wondered if anyone had any experiences they'd like to share - is it a good show? worth going? what are the best days to go? Any suggestions of nearby acommodation?

There's very little information available presently on the official website.. Any insights?

Thanks in advance...
John

Went last year, the show is pretty big (about twice as big as any motorshow I have been to in the UK). The great thing about the venue is that it is right next door to Geneva Airport. You could quite easily do a day trip with an early flight from the uk.
It does get very busy inside the halls though, and finding somewhere to get food etc was a bit of a pain. But if you only do one motorshow next year, it’s the one to go to.
That said, not sure what effect the global slow down will have on it in 2009?

I too went last year and agree with tnw.

Everything was in English so no problem wandering around. Some very interesting concepts there, and my fav was the Fisker Karma.

Ive been a couple of times. It does get super crowded in the 2 main halls so if you can wangle tickets for press day i'd certainly recommend doing that. You can access the arena without leaving the airport so is perfect for a day trip!

Has anyone looked into flights, assuming you can manage it in a day. personally was thinking of driving, and having full day at the show, and a night either side somewhere local to Geneva, and possibly a stop over dijon/reims? - without pushing the driving too much.

one thing i remember about looking inot it last year was that hotels very local were very, very expensive, hence my thoughts about driving this year - stay a few clciks out of geneva.

Thoughts on a postcard..

skyscanner.net here i come..

Blot,

Jet2 must have chaged the flight times for their routes this year from Leeds > Geneva. I am assuming that is who you flew with?

There are some easy jet ones from East Midlands. Is it possible to do it a day each way from Leeds > Geneva, Day at Show, and the Geneva > Leeds?

Was thinknig set off back straight from show, and stop off after an hour or two in France, and finsh off next day (day 3)

Is this feasable, or am I being stupid?

Did it a couple of years ago as a day trip. Admittedly it was organised through work and they chartered the whole plane but it is easily doable in a day.

As an update,

got the option of flying Easyjet; Liverpool > Geneva the same day (Monday 9th)

Outbound LLP > GVA 07:05 > 09:55
Return GVA > LPL 21:20 > 22:20

OR

Do we drive setting off Sunday, show on Monday setting off back after the show stopping off in Dijon, and completing the journey Tuesday?

I am easy either way.... If driving would use Etap Geneva, and Etap Dijon

Thoughts please..

I went a few years ago, after my cousin and I worked out it would be cheaper to be dropped and picked to Luton airport by the wife, buy the plane and admin tickets early than driving, parking and buying entrance tickets to UK Motorshow in Birmingham.

Myself and friends do a road trip around europe each year (cost cutting road-trip) and always co-inside with the show.

Some fabulous cars from great distances appear. Attention to detail has been impressive.

Went to the 08' show flew in on the friday evening, left on the saturday evening, all very hastle free, although you have to fight your way through the crowds to get a look at the high end manufacture stands such as Ferrari,Aston etc.

Also went to the 08'Paris show, equally as crowded

Blot, sounds like a plan, Aston, Lotus, and Lamborghini?

Right,

as a slight update...

decided I/we are going to drive from Yorkshire to Geneva..

Q; Ferry, or Trian - how flexible are they - do I have to decide on a time of crossing, or can I just rock up, say non peak times and catch ytain / set sail ?

Thinking set off Sat evening / early Sunday - cross into France Sunday a.m, blast to Geneva, night over Sunday, Show Monday, driving back straight after, say to Dijon (3hours?) than back Tuesday to blighty.

Thoughts....on a post card

Any further thoughts on this? Thinking of doing something similar.
