freaky coolant levels

Went for a drive today about 80 miles round trip,car was fine on the way there but on the way back started chugging on the motorway in 6th gear,not stupid fast and hadnt really nailed it due to obscene amounts of traffic

So pulled over and had a look round and noticed the coolant level was at the top of the tank,way over max.

So teased the cap off let it cool down and trundled home,just checked the level now its cooled fully and its bang on the max line
[i did top up the level last night as it was below min]

Temp gauge on dash was @ 90,fans were working fine


any suggestions much appreciated

Coolant levels do rise when car is hot if temp gauge was fine then no issue. problem must be something else. Vac pipe come off or pushed on to far?

sounds like i may of got something wrong fitting the bov?

Mine was chugging when the vac pipe from BOV fitting was pushed on too far.

backed the vac pipe off as sugested and had a drive down to demon theives today,car was brilliant roads dry and traffic minimal,still smiling
