I'm in the same boat as you - looking at the same model and price bracket so would be interested to hear what people have to say - they seem a steal as long as you don't don't rack up massive fuel bills with stupid mileage.

I recoken at this price it would depreciate less than a new Ford

I bought a late Nov 05 ('55') RR Supercharged with 20k miles 6 weeks ago from a main LR dealer.

I do 25-30k miles per year so am writing the whole value off over 3 years in my mind and anything I get for it with 100k on the clock will be a bonus.

As for the driving experience I'd compare it with an S-Class in terms of refinement and it has more toys than anything else I have driven. The punch from the Supercharger is very useful and can be addictive! I drive 45 mainly motorway miles each way to work and get 18mpg. I've also had a LPG kit fitted due to my mileage which more-or-less halves the cost of fuel.

The TDV8 is an excellent engine but my experience of driving both is that nothing matches the Superchared in terms of refinement and experience. Having said this, the TDV8 will find a new buyer more easily but I doubt it will fetch £10k more than an equivalent Superchared in 3 years time.

According to my handy calculator, if you do 6k miles PA and the Petrol does 15MPG and the Derv does 30MPG - that £10k difference will take 14 years to pay off.

It isn't so much how long it will take to pay off the increase in price with fuel savings. I think the OP is asking will the S/C sell in 3 years time.

Given the TDV8 is MY07 i would hazard a gues the S/C he is interested in is older than that. There is nothing to fault the S/C on, the power is great the car drives nice etc etc. The downside is the resale value of such a gas guzzler, and ofcourse the fact it is such a gas guzzler. I don't dispute the 18mpg on a run figures, but around town the figures are going to be single digit. Only the OP knows if this is acceptable or not. For me it wouldn't be. I have the TDV8 and never once have i thought i wish i had the S/C. It has power exactly where you need it for overtaking etc and best of all i am nudging 20mpg around town (ish) It is a case of you pays your money and takes your choice.

I bought a new Vogue SE Supercharged almost exactly 3 years ago. Completely reliable and huge fun. I've clocked up 50,000 miles and intend to run in into the ground.

The kids love it (TV/DVD on the headrests), it looks perfect in the country, doesn't need to be cleaned, transported logs, dogs, golf clubs, lawn mowers, Christmas trees... and, after a polish it looks like a diplomatic vehicle. An excellent motor and highly recommended. All I'd say is, write off the purchase in your mind for 6 years or so.

How do you rate the LPG conversion? Is this the JE kit? Any problems?
The LPG conversion is a made up of third party components fitted and set up by JE who have converted around a dozen Supercharged engines successfully to LPG. When running on LPG it drives the same as on petrol but costs about half the price in fuel.

I thought beforehand that setting up the LPG system on a complex Supercharged 400BHP V8 was not a job I would trust to one of the many LPG converters you'll find on Google who largely compete on price, which is why I chose JE to do the job and I was right! Their installation is very neat. You wouldn't know that a LPG kit was fitted unless you knew what you were looking for.

We are having a few challenges getting the LPG set up 100% but I have found JE to be true professionals and they simply won't accept anything but perfection. The LPG set up is quite complex, for example, requiring 'a squirt' of petrol at just the right point when you give it full acceleration. I'm sure I am over simplifying one of many complex fueling processes that need to be set up! We're 95% there now and I have every confidence in JE to resolve the remaining minor issues.

both the S/C and TDV8 are great cars. However as they are cars both will depreciate and both will sell in three years for the right price. My advice would be to test drive both back to back and see which you prefer. I did then when buying my 07 RR recently. There are plenty around so you should not have am issue in arranging. The TDV8 was a great drive with good pick up and torque. However the S/C was in another league both in terms of noise and acceleration. Yes I went for the S/C and do not regret it for a second. As for mpg I use the car in London withonly occassional motorway miles and always top18mpg even under hard acceleration, so you should be safe from single digit figures. Great car and can take anything...even our two Mastiffs fit in easily and with the TV / DVD screen for the little one and gadgets for me there is something for everyone.
