I have 3 old tenants that owe me money. I have written/phoned them on several occasions and have basically written the debts off as unrecoverable.

However, Ive been sitting here thinking about it and I wondered what would be involved in selling the debt to an agency - would be interested to hear if anyone has done a similar thing.....

The debts are old (2 years+) and we would have taken the tenants to court over it at the time, however the controlling party in the business didnt want the hassle and wrote the debt off. I am now in sole control and want to recover some of the debts.

Hence the consideration of a debt collector.

-For the record, the debts total £8200. I dont think the cases will stand up in court, (been there done that recovered half of a £6k supposed 'in the bag' delapidations claim - loads of work/hassle/time though and its being paid back at 15 quid a week!)

Any thoughts?

Hiya, I would of thought that if "The prior controlling party" had written them off then it may be difficult to reinstate them.

You need to speak to James in the Business forum. Ask the mods to move this thread there - From what I've see from references by other PHers he's very effective.
