Got my car back from Andy at APM.
Had a ticking noise that I didnt like!!
Engine was totally rebuilt 13 - 14 months before.
Andy diagnosed this as a worn lobe on a cam (manufacturing problem), after checking clearances etc.
TVR gave me a great deal on the cam and followers prices.
All in this cost just over £300 to fix including parts and labour.
Cheap as chips.

A good result and a lot cheaper than it could have been but.....

....I'm not sure I would be thanking TVR for selling me a camshaft that only lasted 13 months.

You must have breathed a sigh of relief when you got the bill tho

Sorry to hear this.
Is it just a cam replacement and what mileage were you at?

Mine was at 42k or the originals when it needed work.

Go create some weather...

yes just the cams, the cars done 32k on original noisy cams.

the car is in for a 12k service and valve clearance check when the cam wear was spotted, looks like about a month wait for parts,so ive got time to save up!
its not off the road though so thats ok.

thing is its on the original clutch as well so when that goes.....£££.

on the bright side nothing else needed for the service not even brake pads,i obviously dont drive it hard enough.

Cams retail at £270 pounds each and followers at £15 (8 per bank). IMHO. So if doing both sides it could cost £780 plus vat on parts plus labour at up to £60ph plus vat and maybe 10 - 12 hrs ? So can get very expensive.
Hence why I was quite pleased at the bill I received. Even if the cam only lasted 6K miles!
Using an indie really saves you cash if you can get nearer £30 - 40 ph.
