Whats the power steering pump arrangement on a Wedge?
Discussion
I'm rebuilding my V8S and also adding power steering to it using a chimaera rack (No S's have PAS as standard).
The bit I'm struggling with is the power steering pump bracket - I need the pump to be mounted on the front of the passenger side cylinder head - does the wedge have this arrangement?
I have a pump but the bracket is for a landrover style timing case / water pump so it doesn't fit the V8S with the pre serp SD1 style front cover / timing case.
If the Wedge has this style / location of pump has anyone got a spare bracket in exchange for some beer tokens?
The V8S can't have the pump on the passenger side low down Rover SD1 style as the exhaust is there - the exhaust manifolds sweep forward, joint in front of the engine then sweep down the passenger side of the engine.
All wisdom appreciated.

One of the guys on the chimaera forum sent me this a while back, this is where I need to get to.
Worst case scenario is I have to saw my bracket and re weld it to make it like this one I guess.
This pic is from a car that has been converted.

This is the pump style/location as originally fitted to my SEAC. Unfortunately the only bracket i have is on the car!Chris
I thought this type of pump was fitted to classic range rovers - mid/late 1980s? It might be worth checking this out. This a link to a company selling the pump
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Range-Rover-Classic-Power-as...
Thanks all for the info.
I've had another look and I think that pump in the picture I posted above has the RR bracket with the end sawn off - so I'll give that a go first.
I know there's Douglas Valley & Bell Hill but I'd also quite like to buy my kids some xmas pressies, if I pay their prices they will be lucky to end up with an orange.
I'll post back when I have some info.
I have thought about an electric pump but there's not a lot of spare space under the V8S bonnet - there is however a nice big space where the engine driven pump can go, so for now I'm going down that avenue.

Most (all?) V8 Wedges have the pump low down SD1 style. Poss. one or two specials are diff. (Supercharged, aircon and LHD.) but your unlikely to find a bracket.
What did the early pre Serp Chims with PS use, they have forward pipes.

Well my 400SE has the PAS mounted higher up. than most others I've seen, but I've seen other early ones the same as mine. What did the early pre Serp Chims with PS use, they have forward pipes.

OK I'm beginning to work a few things out now.
On the pic above does the power steering pump bracket bolt directly to the cylinder head - or is there another bracket for the alternator sandwiched between - so do I need to allow for the thickness of it (washers or something) when I fit it to my car to make the pulleys line up.
The underbonnet pic of a Chimaera at the start of this thread I've worked out has a Landrover bracket with the end sawn off.
The Landrover / Wedge pic above bracket uses the 2 long bolts for the water pump for fixing - but it also uses 2 of the water pump bolts - these 2 positions are incompatible with the SD1 style water pump so that part of the bracket has been cut off (as the long bolts go straight through into the block they are common to both types - though I understand there are some bolt length variations).
I'm beginning to think more and more that the bracket I need doesn't actually exist and I'm going to need to mod the Landrover bracket I have.

On the 350i I had the pump was mounted high up next to the distributor, and a right pain it made getting to the dizzy bolt too.So one at least

t welding and poor angles. The same pump (Hoburn-Eaton) was used on the Montego (amongst other heaps) albeit with a shorter filler neck.rev-erend said:
As you can see the pump mounts on the head..I've finally found the pump and have some great details pictures of the mount - drop me your mail address and I'll send them to you. I could easily mock up the mount in card and send it to you if need be - assuming you want to make one.
My 1988 350i has the PAS low down on the n/s bank below the cylinder head. So out of sight I didn't realise I had PAS for 3 months! It doesn't bolt to the cylinder head because I have just overhauled the heads and didn't disturb the PAS. I once saw a jade green 350i at a Blackpool meet and his car had the pump on the other side high up, near the alternator. The people there seemed to think mine was the oddball but I'm not too sure. If you need detailed pics let me know.
