I am too skint to have my scooter serviced on time. To keep the warranty valid I have disconnected the speedo cable and have tied it up just out of sight. What penalty would I get if caught by a plod...?

Well given that if you are stopped, you will be erm stationary, how will they know unless they go poking around?

I will keep this scooter untill it's scrapped. No moral dilemas here.

Rather than tie it up, I'd try to wedge it somewhere close to where it could "accidentally" fall.

What? My speedo cable's disconnected? Must have worked its way loose, officer

Fraud, if you made a claim on the warranty, I would have thought.

If you want to keep the bike until it's scrap, that wont be very long if you don't get it serviced...

What I am after is the penalty from the law from not having a working speedo, someone said it was three points!

It will only be going over the service interval by 200kms so I don't think it will blow up somehow.

According to my FPN offences list defective speedo is endorsable with 3 points and a £60.00 fine.....
Best get it sorted.

How do you define "defective"? I now know for a fact that the speedo on the quat and S4 both over-read by 10% across the range. Is that an offence too?

What else is on that list of yours?

Why not service it yourself?

Bowl of hot fairy liquid, quick wash down, check lights work, tighten all visible nuts and bolts, kick tyres to make sure they are both up....Job done!, 5 mins at most

The speedo cable in my golf has snapped, yet I still have a speedo on my road angel which i use.

Any type of speedo doesn't form part of the MOT test either, you know...

How is a GPS speedo any less valid than a cable/electronic pulse/digital/optical driven speedo, etc...
