Should I buy a train set?

I'm 29. And am quite concerned that I'm seriously considering setting something up in the loft.

I even spent 15 mins in Hamleys yesterday checking out the form.

Sounds like I really need to get a life. Anyone else got the same problem?

If you spend a lot of time at home in front of pointless TV, then yes why not.If it gets in the way of drinking,chasing the girls or spending time with your mates then forget it.
Still agree that you should get a Scalextric instead!

I had the same 'dilemma’, when I was just a tad younger than you, in the early 90’s, when I contemplated buying a wooden model ship kit to build whilst my girlfriend studied at Uni. I bought it, built it, and I now design them for a living, so rather than ‘get a life’, it kinda did give a new life, and has lead me to Italy!

Somewhat suprisingly the missus has given me the green light.

Although I do suspect that whilst I'm in the loft she'll do a runner. But then again, with the money I'd save from keeping her in Gucci handbags I could probably pick myself up a nice Intercity 125......

My boyfriend has just sold off most of his trains to fund his HGV licence, sold about 20 trains, including a 125, Pendolino and loads of DMUs, shame you weren't looking about a month ago, could have bought everything you needed!

Speaking as a train widow, it does become very consuming and addictive.

Model railways, per se, are fine. But not at 29.

You shouldn't be missing out on life stuck in the loft at your age.

Get a life.

Get a model railway when you're 50.

I've always fancied setting something up in the loft, and I'm of a similar age to you. I've always had a passing interest in dabbling in electrics / electronics, and quite like the thought of building a control system for it from scratch. Can't really justify the time or expense at the moment, but it can't be any worse than spending all evening in front of the TV or PC...
